Harp

Education and Career:

Born in Frankfurt am Main. Daughter of the composer, Horst Franke. First piano lesson at the age of 6, with Gustav Geisel, later at Dr. Hoch's Conservatory with Marietta Grutisch and Gisela Verron. From 1975 also harp tuition, also at Dr. Hoch's Conservatory, with Charlotte Cassedanne and Barbara Biermann.

After school leaving exams at the Goethe Gymnasium with music as her main subject, she went on to study music at the School for Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt am Main, with Harp as her main subject. Since 1986, Karin Franke-André has been a harp lecturer at Dr. Hoch´s Conservatory. In 1990 she also became head of the Study Department. Her concert performances focus on solo concerts and chamber music in various formations, the Frankfurt Harp Ensemble, which she founded, and the Mutare Ensemble.
