Hiltrud Hampe

Viola

Education and Career:

She studied viola at Stuttgart School of Music and Frankfurt School of Music, and Baroque viola at the Schola Cantorum in Basel.

Other activities or ambitions:

Freelance work with the Frankfurt Museum Orchestra in opera and concerts since 1992. She has worked as a soloist with viola, Baroque viola and viola d'amore across Europe, in the USA and in Egypt. She has been a member of the orchestra of the Collegium Vocale Gent under Philippe Herreweghe since 2001.

Jury member at Jugend musiziert.

Teaching aims / Methodology:

The aim of her teaching is to encourage pupils in their musical development physiologically, technically and in terms of interpretation. The broad programme at Dr. Hoch's Conservatory makes it possible to make an early start with the viola at primary school age without a "diversion" via the violin. Another focus of her work is teaching the great stylistic variety of viola music, particularly in chamber music. She also teaches performance practice of Baroque violas.
