Bruno Suys studied at the Koninklijk Muziekconservatorium in his native town of Gent (Belgium) with Frank Coppieters and took master courses with teachers including Prof. Eugeny Kolosov. He was a member of the E.U. Youth Orchestra and won prizes at international music competitions, including 2nd prize in Geneva (CIEM 1990), where he also won the Swiss Prize for contemporary music.
After two years as 1st solo double bass player at the Koninklijk Filharmonisch Orkest van Vlaanderen, Antwerp, in 1991, he came to the Frankfurt Opera and Museum Orchestra in the same capacity
While he was studying he also taught as an assistant to his teacher and later as a lecturer at the Folkwang School of Music in Essen, in the Duisberg department. He currently works with the double bass apprentices at the Frankfurt Opera.
He is also a regular guest with the Ensemble Modern and works with the musical saw.
