The Study Program of the Ballet Department

The Ballet Department trains young dancers in a multi-level study program. All classes take place in the afternoon from 3.30 pm so the students can attend schools in the morning.

The ballet department of Dr. Hoch's Conservatory offers training in classical ballet and serves as a preliminary professional training. In the seven levels of training, students receive intensive dance and ballet lessons. The classical-academic teaching system is based on a Vaganova method adapted to today's stage practice. On the basis of this preliminary training, a further professional career can be pursued.

Throughout an entrance examination, only those children who show physical suitability, a talent for dancing, rhythmic talent, musicality and age-appropriate development of body awareness are required.will be selected.

In the first stage of dance training, the so-called "Pre-Ballet", the children are gradually introduced to the structure of a ballet class. The perception of space and the first body positions are learned. Coordination and sense of rhythm are encouraged through movements to music. Classes at this level take place twice a week.

The following levels 1 and 2 (Basis I + II) are also taught twice a week. The teaching program in the early years emphasizes the development of stable muscles, joint mobility, and ligament elasticity, which are essential for the healthy growth and physical development of children at this age. Furthermore, children will learn movement control skills, motor skills, and develop movement memory.

For grades 3 and 4 (Mittelstufe I + II), classes take place three times a week. In addition to the exercises from the previous years, exercises of a higher level of difficulty are integrated and there is an increase in the speed at which the movements are to be performed. In addition, work is done on individual expressiveness, which is used in the first scenic stage experiences.

Four classes per week are scheduled for level 5 (Oberstufe). In the final stage of dance training in the ballet department of Dr. Hoch's Conservatory, students are taught additional forms of dance, which complements the regular class program. The goal of this class level is to achieve maximum precision and ease in the execution of movements through further stabilization of the body. Basically, the goal is to consolidate and refine the artistic design of what has been learned, virtuosity and individual expressiveness.

After completing grade 5, the students may continue dance training in the master class.

Various repertoire pieces and ballet variations are rehearsed across classes and performed as part of the event programs of Dr. Hoch's Conservatory, so the students can gain their first stage experience.
